Sisterhood, Covenhood, and Healing Together

Sisterhood, Covenhood, and Healing Together by Kenya Ku$h

Healing in many ways is a deeply personal experience, with inevitable periods of solitude and stillness required. However, intentional healing can occur in communion when individuals come together with a common purpose, shared high energy, and vulnerability. Some of my most magical and mystical moments of healing have come in communion with my girls, further proving that being part of a collective of healers is more than just a title, it’s a practice. Medicine, wellness, celebration, and commerce are best amplified among other individuals on the same wave or vibe.

Over the years, Women.Weed.WiFi has hosted many events— from hypebeast parties, to school assemblies, to full retreats. We’ve taken over museums, historical theaters, farms, hotels, studios and more across the country. In the wake of COVID-19 we have gone mostly digital, opening our signature Smoke + Stretch sessions to those across the globe. Of the numerous events, here are five of Women.Weed.WiFi’s events that left me transformed on a spiritual/ cellular level.

(In no order)

  1. Nurturing the Divine Feminine Retreat

  2. Hu$tle & Flow Zine 002 Launch Party

  3. STG Presents: Intl Girl Gang Expo

  4. First Smoke + Stretch

  5. Cumbiatón

Nurturing the Divine Feminine Retreat (Aug 31- Sep 2, 2019)

This was our first multi-day event— a three day wellness retreat in Portland, OR.  Doing an event of this scale was something new for us, a definite challenge, and actually stressful at times to execute. However, it was all worth it because the group of femmes/ womxn that it brought together showed up with open hearts and minds. Womxn chatted with strangers, some leaving permanent friends. Through our meals, our herbs, our medicine-making workshops, and dancing I felt renewed and proud. I also found out I was pregnant as the retreat ended so it felt like a personal ceremony as well <3

Hu$tle & Flow Zine 002 Release Party (July 8, 2016)

This zine launch was scheduled to be a banger — at the Old Rainier Brewery studios with the homies DJ Toya B , Cousin Chris, and Luna God spinning— blunts in constant rotation with the Bitches Brew flowing. Two days before we were scheduled, Philando Castile was murdered by police in Minnesota and it absolutely gutted me along with so many other people who saw themselves and their family members in the young man. After contemplating if we should cancel or not, we decided to continue and dedicate the night to celebrating and mourning black lives and love. We created an altar with pictures of those killed by police and the party ended up being a space for people who needed a mindful release from the heaviness of the world.

STG Presents: The International Girl Gang Expo ( July 27, 2017)

WWW was blessed to receive a grant from STG to produce an event at the historic Neptune Theater with the full support of their production team <3 We had the vision to create a night of commerce and performance, filling the theatre with all BIPOC womxn/femmes vendors and performers, including J-Nasty, Blossom, Tiko Texas, and Toya B. It was a free event, and the love Seattle showed was epic!

Smoke + Stretch (December 23, 2016- present)

Back in 2016 finding smoke-friendly yoga spaces was not a thing. Femme-specific spaces were few, wellness spaces for BIPOC folks were even fewer. Janice and I had the idea to host private sessions that combined yoga, meditation, and cannabis and put out our first flyer. We filled the space that we were generously donated wall to wall with yoga mats and femmes. We practiced, meditated, and medicated together with a view overlooking the city. The energy was high and open to receiving. Tenderness was in the air and gratitude was high, especially from Janice and I.

Cumbiatón ( April 28, 2018 +)

This party thrown by WCC ( including La Roxay Production, DJ Sizzle, and WWW) is one of my favorite parties to date! I had no idea what to expect at the first installment in Seattle, but I was beyond thrilled to see all of the vendors making money, hearing the bass on the speakers at Club Sur, and seeing how many (couple hundred) people came out to dance to Cumbia. Getting drunk and dancing at Cumbiatón is definitely a spiritual experience for me!
