This month has been truly transformative for me. And I don’t use that word lightly— from September 1st, every single day has presented me with new and beautiful experiences, revelations, and opportunities, along with equally intense challenges, road-blocks, and responsibilities. In the last week of the month, I’m so grateful for the influx of chances to grow and learn, and know that learning the lessons is the hardest, though very necessary, part in the process of elevation.

The month started during Women.Weed.WiFi’s first retreat, Nurturing the Divine Feminine in Portland, OR. For three days BIWOC of varied backgrounds came together with open ears and minds, pure intentions, and celebratory hearts for individual and communal growth. We had a workshop where we learned how to make salves with Berenice from Hood Herbalism, panels with bad ass mamas Bri from The Hoodwitch, Cynthia from Karmic Bath, and J-Nasty. We had conversation about equity and cannabis as a ritual with leaders in the industry, partied together, and got high together :) One of my favorite smokes of the weekend was this Mazuri Grape.

To date, I’ve never come across a strain by Ritual Cannabis that I haven’t loved, and this Mazuri Grape didn’t disappoint. The nugs were yellow-green with some purple highlights and tips ;) The smell was more earthy than sweet as the name might imply, but each of the large, healthy nugs was bursting with terpenes— evident by the pungent smell and abundance of trichomes. The bud was easy to breakdown by hand and to roll, and paired well with the organic rose petal wraps by Hamilton Cigars we used for the weekend.

The thing that sets apart weed from Ritual Cannabis from others available in the recreational market is the intention and care put into the growth and curation of the plants from seed to harvest. Plants are very sensitive to energies especially that of their caretakers and neighboring plants. This is the reason why every time I leave my plants with a baby-sitter they get sad, and why some people are said to have “green thumbs” with the natural ability to help plants prosper. The plants at Ritual Cannabis have the best plant mom, Zooey, and grow in the sun and fresh air with chickens and other plant friends. The care they receive translates to the high or effect that produce within our bodies as we consume. Many folks at the retreat commented that they were hesitant to smoke in a group because of past experiences with anxiety, however noted that they didn’t have any negative side effects while smoking at the retreat!

Similarly, the tranquility of the strain and soothing, yet mood-boosting effects of the Mazuri Grape have helped me so much through all of the wild and intense transitions that have been ongoing since the end of the retreat. That weekend was a much-needed reset on my mental and emotional state and the bud definitely contributed to the vibe and growth present. I’m thankful for my plant allies, and for those who care for them.
